ROOFTECH has performed hurricane damage assessments from Florida to Texas and in the Caribbean. ROOFTECH brings its understanding of wind and wind pressures along with its experience in roof design and construction to its evaluations of hurricane damage. Hurricanes are also significant rain events, and roof collapses related to high rainfall rates, the blockage of drains from blowing debris, and combinations of wind and rain loads are often associated with hurricanes. ROOFTECH’s personnel are experts in roof drainage design, rainwater loads, and the combination of wind and rainwater loads on buildings. Mr. Patterson has published two editions of Roof Drainage (RCI/IIBEC), a roof drainage design book. Mr. Patterson has also published peer-reviewed technical papers including Roof Drainage Design (RCI, 2007), Life Safety Roof Design Issues (RCI 2010), Combination of Wind Load and Rain Load (RCI 2012), Roof Drainage Design, Roof Collapses, & the Codes (RCI 2018), and Raising the Bar in Standards: The ASCE 7 Standard & Low-Slope Roof Drainage” (IIBEC 2020)
