Jordan D. Beckner, PE, RRC

Director of Engineering

Mr. Beckner is the Director of Engineering Services at Roof Technical Services, Inc. and resides in Dallas, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Baylor University and is a licensed professional engineer in 11 states. Mr.Beckner has been working in the engineering field (initially as an Engineer-in-Training) since shortly after his graduation. He has been a licensed engineer since 2010 and has worked primarily as a forensic (investigative) engineer since 2012. He has investigated over a thousand engineering projects related to storm damage, moisture intrusion, construction defects, structural failures, building envelope, HVAC, plumbing, vehicular damages, foundation issues, and more. Mr. Beckner has been designated as an expert witness, provided expert reports and deposition testimony, participated in mediations, and worked as an appraiser for insurance claims. Mr. Beckner also spent time working for a manufacturer of engineered wood products, providing technical assistance to design professionals. In this role, he gained experience with building codes, acceptance criteria, manufacturing, and construction.

Experience

  • Performed over a thousand forensic engineering investigations for commercial, industrial, residential, educational, and church facility projects related to storm damage (hail, wind, tornado, hurricane, lightning, and flood), moisture intrusion, construction defects, structural failures, roof collapses, roof blow-offs, and building envelope failures.
    • Forensic investigations have included the following types of roofs: asphalt composition shingles, concrete and clay tiles, wood shakes and shingles, aluminum shingles, fiber cement (and asbestos) shingles, slate, synthetic slate, stone-coated steel shingles, built-up roofing (BUR), modified-bitumen, thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), spray polyurethane foam (SPF), ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), fluid-applied membranes, and metal panels (R-panels, standing seam, aluminum panels, copper, etc.).
  • Designated as an expert witness and provided deposition testimony for cases including storm damage property claims, construction defect claims, and various other insurance claim issues.
  • Served as an appraiser for clients when an appraisal clause has been invoked to settle an insurance payment dispute.
  • Performed roof condition assessments (RCA) as part of due diligence for prospective buyers of commercial properties. These assessments included identifying potential roof installation issues, age-related deterioration, estimated remaining useful life (RUL), and providing capital needs expectations.
  • Performed wind uplift calculations, roof drainage calculations, and sealed roof plan drawings/specifications for new projects.
  • Prepared cost estimates for roof repairs/replacement.
  • Performed roof moisture surveys including the use of infrared (IR) imaging.
  • Inspected projects for applicable building code and energy code compliance.
